TSA MET are an established specialist recruitment agency focusing within the Mining, Energy and Transport Industries, operating across all stages of a project.

The client is constructing a state-of-the-art underground mine to enable the extraction of Polyhalite – a unique multi-nutrient fertilizer – along with the necessary infrastructure both above and below ground that will be required for transport, processing and distribution.

We are currently in need of Shaft Technicians to be part of the shaft sinking crew, responsible for the collection, coordination and reporting of technical data related to the shaft sinking activities.

Duties will include:
  • Situational awareness, advising crew of any potential hazards, changes in diameter and expected conditions
  • Track progress, downtime, pick consumption, ventilation readings, logging blast times
  • In -Shaft Surveying duties:
    • Point cloud data collection of excavation
    • Convergence monitoring within completed shaft portions
    • As-built surveys of lining (Visual inspections/scans)
    • Accident site surveys as required
    • Monitor excavation depth and diameter + shaft alignment
    • Setting out lining pours, brackets, and probe holes and drill patterns for blasting purposes where applicable
  • Preparing Geological and Geotechnical data as sink progresses, including:
    • Basic mapping/logging
    • Collection of samples
    • Drilling activities (water inflow etc)
    • Grouting operations (Volumes, pressures, timings etc)
  • Carry out concrete flow and slump tests
  • Collect samples
  • Liaise with other departments (Survey, Geology, Geotech, Vent)
  • Adhere and implement to company’s safety policy, standards and systems
  • Carry out risk assessments
  • Brief Shaft Technicians on all relevant matters
 
Experience required:
  • Extensive underground mining / tunnelling environment experience, in a surveying, geological or geotechnical role would be a plus
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Technical ability to use computers and surveying equipment
  • Previous experience collating reports from information analysed
  • Ability to interpret method statements and risk assessment documentation
Competencies required:
  • One of the following
    • Experience in underground mining preferable, tunnelling as an alternative
    • Experience in and around shafts / shaft sinking an advantage
    • Underground training in heading or face work in line with NCB/UK Coal guidance
    • Mining Apprenticeship scheme
    • BTEC in relevant engineering / surveying subjects
    • City and Guilds in relevant engineering / surveying subjects
    • NVQ in relevant engineering / surveying subjects
    • City and Guilds in relevant engineering / surveying subjects
    • MQB Surveyors cert in relevant engineering / surveying subjects
